Senior makes a lasting impression at the University of Leicester

Aluminium fenestration solutions from Senior Architectural Systems have been specified for use on two new buildings as part of the wider redevelopment of the University of Leicester's Brookfield campus.

Enjoying repeat business thanks to the company’s successful relationship with leading architect Shepheard Epstein Hunter PLC, Senior’s aluminium doors, windows and curtain wall systems feature on the newly developed East Wing of the University’s iconic Percy Gee Building, which houses the Student Union, and also the new School of Business.

The redevelopment of the East Wing marks the final stage in the transformation of the University’s Percy Gee building which first began in 2010. The new four-story extension has embraced the use of daylighting with Senior’s slimline SF52 aluminium curtain wall and patented low U-value PURe® aluminium windows. Both fenestration systems have helped improve the thermal-efficiency of the building, with the slim and stylish aluminium frames perfectly complementing the vertical brise soleil fins that project one metre from the glazed façade. The striking entrance has been completed with the use of Senior’s robust SPW501 aluminium commercial doors. Designed by Shepheard Epstein Hunter PLC, Senior worked alongside specialist installer Unique Windows Systems and main contractor Stepnell to deliver the fenestration package.

Another new building on the University of Leicester’s Brookfield Campus that has been enhanced by Senior’s fenestration systems is the new home for the School of Business. Also designed by architects Shepheard Epstein Hunter, the project involved the sensitive refurbishment of the existing Victorian building and the creation of a more architecturally sympathetic gabled three-storey extension. The striking new building has been wrapped in copper cladding, with Senior’s SF52 aluminium curtain wall system and SPW600 aluminium windows used to create a light and airy interior, and the company’s robust SPW501 aluminium commercial doors installed to the main entrance. Senior’s fenestration package was once again fabricated and installed by specialist installer Unique Windows Systems, this time for main contractor Henry Boot.
