Confetti Institute

Allan Joyce Architects certainly got creative when designing the new Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies which is now a focal point of Nottingham Trent University’s Creative Quarter Campus.

Formed by the extensive £5.6 Million refurbishment of a Victorian lace factory, Senior Architectural Systems’ SF52 aluminium curtain walling was chosen to complement the building’s impressive façade of weathered steel rainscreen cladding and dark brick work.

With sleek and slim sightlines, enhanced thermal performance and made from fully recyclable aluminium, the SF52 aluminium curtain walling not only looks fantastic but also contributed to the building’s excellent BREEAM rating.

Named as the Sustainable Development of the Year at the 2019 East Midlands Brick Awards, the scheme also includes a green nature roof to reduce stormwater run-off and provide a wildlife habitat.

The design of the new facility takes its inspiration from the surrounding industrial style buildings which are on the edge of the city centre conservation area and retains an industrial heritage look and feel for the newly created spaces.

Offering exceptional design flexibility and a bespoke solution, the SF52 curtain walling system was specified as both capped and capless throughout the six-story building. Senior’s high performance thermally broken SPW501 aluminium commercial doors were also specified to create the building’s modern and welcoming entrance.

As well as helping to maximise the flow of natural light into the interior spaces, the slim profile of the SF52 system further complements the building’s original steel framed windows which have been retained.

The new digital media hub provides state of the art facilities for students including media studios, labs, classrooms and a learning resource centre, together with a contemporary café and a rooftop terrace.

These new facilities make the Confetti Institute a compelling choice for further and higher education students who want to study industry-led vocational creative technology courses in music technology, gaming, film and TV, radio, screen acting, animation and live events production.
