Berry Court is a new private ‘build-to-rent’ residential development of 113 one, two and three bedroom quality apartments in the heart of Bournemouth. Built on a previously underused surface car park, the new £27 million development also includes a 217 space multi storey car park for use by both the public and residents.
Designed by Bright Space Architects, Berry Court reflects the art deco heritage of Bournemouth with clean horizontal banding and sweeping curves. A comprehensive fenestration package from Senior Architectural systems was specified, comprising thermally efficient windows and sliding patio doors for the apartments, plus curtain walling and commercial doors for the main building makes the most of the stunning views over both the town and out to sea.
Collaboration was an integral part of the creation of Berry Court. The development was delivered by Bournemouth Development Company, a joint venture between Bournemouth Borough Council and Morgan Sindall Investments Ltd. In addition, the contract to supply the fenestration package for Berry Court was delivered by Senior in partnership with long-term supply chain partners Soundcraft and main contractor Morgan Sindall, with whom Senior has an established trading agreement.
The attractive façade design of the scheme, which pays homage to the Art Deco style that is evident in much of Bournemouth’s architectural heritage, has been enhanced through the specification of Senior’s attractive SPW600e aluminium tilt and turn windows. Also offering high thermal and weathering performance, the SPW600e window system provides a robust and low maintenance solution to meet the demands of the private rental sector.
The individual apartments also benefit from Senior’s energy-efficient PURe® SLIDE aluminium doors which incorporate a patented PUR thermal break to help achieve exceptionally low U-values to reduce both the heating costs and the overall carbon calculations of the scheme. Ideally suited for residential schemes, the innovative PURe® SLIDE aluminium door also offers excellent acoustic performance.
The attractive and highly durable aluminium sliding doors have been installed to provide access, natural ventilation and to maximise the sense of natural light and space. To ensure safety and as a bespoke design feature, Soundcraft also designed an attractive Juliet balcony system which was subject to stringent strength and load bearing tests by Senior prior to installation.
Senior’s SF52 curtain walling was installed to the main entrance of the building to give an attractive ‘frameless’ design with glass to glass corner detailing, together with high performance automatic SPW501 aluminium doors.
Berry Court is now a vibrant town centre community that has brought economic and lifestyle benefits to the town.
