London high-rise takes Senior’s systems to new heights!

Towering 22-storey high and affording spectacular views across the capital, the new Signal Building in London’s Elephant & Castle is attracting plenty of attention and not least because of its extensive glazing package supplied by leading fenestration designer and manufacturer Senior Architectural Systems.

The new 22 storey tower, which has been designed by architects Direct Ech Ltd, features retail and commercial space to the lower levels and high specification residential accommodation on the upper floors. Each floor has been arranged to be a triangular shaped open plan space, with private terraces to the front and rear and benefiting from natural light from windows on all three facades.

Ideally suited to high-rise applications and offering exceptionally slim sightlines, Senior’s SMR900 aluminium curtain walling (now superseded by the new SF52 curtain walling) has been used to create the dramatic façade of the building alongside the flexible and thermally-efficient SPW600e window systems. Senior’s high performance SPW600e doors have also been used to provide secure external access to the terraces whilst ensuring the maximum flow of light into the interior. For the high traffic environment on the ground floor Senior’s robust SD doors were specified. Senior’s range of glazing solutions were designed and fabricated by Glass and General.

Located on Newington Causeway, the Signal Building is a key project in the wider regeneration of the Elephant & Castle area of the city.
