Tynecastle School plays a pivotal role of delivering educational needs to the Gorgie district of Edinburgh and has since 1912. The achievement of a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ accreditation was primarily through the implementation of core sustainable ideals by using natural and recycled materials, energy saving and environmental technologies.
Noise pollution from adjacent roads and railway lines together with solar orientation and level access were main factors of consideration when developing the building layout and optimising functional arrangements, to combine both old and new schools.
