Goscote Palliative Care Centre

NHS Walsall’s recently completed £5.4m, 12-bed Palliative Care Centre has been constructed around an envelope of Senior’s Hybrid curtain wall and window system, and fully compatible SPW600 thermally broken entrance doors.

Goscote Palliative Care Centre in the West Midlands is the first building in the UK to achieve a design stage ‘Excellent’ rating under BREEAM Healthcare. Forming part of a LIFT scheme, the new two-storey building of 2,500m2 provides a range of new inpatient and outpatient adult palliative care services.

Based on the concept of a ‘hospice with a difference’ the 12 bed inpatient facility provides specialist nursing across a range of disciplines. The individual deck areas outside each room, with planted areas and a planted sensory courtyard and sculptures, enhance the end of life care in Walsall.

The engineered timber of Hybrid is a perfect match for the timber-clad bullnose pillar, which is a major design feature at the entrance to the building.
