Glentowy, Billericay, Essex

Featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs, Glentowy was designed by owner and architect David Parsons as a self-build, project managed by his wife Michelle.

Constructed on an idyllic plot in the Essex woodland, the sleek, black clad, three-bedroom house and artist studio was designed to give complete privacy with no windows to two sides of the house.

To make sure that this private hideaway had sufficient natural light, SCW+ curtain wall was installed to give an entire wall of glass along the south elevation and across the offset pitched roof, flooding the building with daylight, giving it a light and airy feel, perfect for an artist’s studio.

Commenting on his choice David said “We both liked the SAS curtain walling system and PURe® windows because of the square, contemporary profile of the sections. Also the PURe® window system was the next level of thermally separated windows giving a better performance than the SPW600s”

The excellent thermal efficiency of SCW+ curtain wall together with the specification of PURe® windows with their innovative thermal break (U values as low as 0.71 W/m2K when calculated as a CEN standard), ensured that energy bills could be kept to a minimum.
