When architect Robert Evans designed his RIBA award-winning home near Matlock Bath, he specified innovative Hybrid systems from fenestration systems designer and manufacturer Senior Architectural Systems throughout.
Robert, who is a director at Evans Vettori Architects, sought advice from experts at Senior in order to select the most appropriate systems to maximise views over the stunning Matlock area of Derbyshire. His family dwelling, called High Edge, sits on a steep hillside and has been designed to look like a contemporary Swiss chalet, taking influences from local history, with the area previously being known as ‘Little Switzerland’.
The property incorporates timber cladding, traditional stonework and a prominent, sloping roof. It recently won an award at the prestigious East Midlands 2014 RIBA Awards, while Robert won Architect of the Year at the same event.
At High Edge, Robert required fenestration systems which were environmentally friendly with high quality aesthetics, so visited Senior’s Denaby showroom where he spoke with technical advisors before specifiying Senior’s Hybrid systems with a white, painted finish.
Senior’s Hybrid series 2 window systems were fabricated by Hepworth Framework and installed throughout the project, to provide uniformed sight lines for fixed and opening elements.
Robert combined these with Senior’s Hybrid series 3 curtain wall systems, with integrated Hybrid series 1 casement window systems. These systems maximise natural light inside the property to make the most of the views, while the casement window systems facilitate ventilation inside the home.
Senior’s Hybrid lift and slide patio door systems were also installed at High Edge to bring a sleek, contemporary feel to the balcony area, where the stunning views can be appreciated. The balcony area also incorporates a Hybrid series 1 door and curtain walling systems with a glass-to-glass corner so views across the valley are not obstructed.
With Hybrid systems being manufactured in Huddersfield by a British company, using responsibly sourced timber, a host of benefits are offered including a reduction in lead times when compared with European manufacturers.
The eco-focused systems offer an aluminium external profile to provide exceptional performance, long-life and low maintenance with contrasting engineered timber internally to provide an ideal combination of aesthetics, high insulation properties and strong environmental benefits.
Robert said: “We are delighted with the quality and look of Senior’s windows and doors. They are ‘warm’ inside, robust outside and maximise the glass areas.”
