Senior systems create an arresting finish

news-arresting-finishWhen South Yorkshire Police refurbished and renewed its brand new headquarters, glazing systems from Senior Architectural Systems were brought into force in order to create an open, well-lit and eco-friendly environment for police staff.

Senior’s Hybrid series 3 curtain walling systems were installed by Alusec UK Ltd on the Sheffield site to achieve an arresting look both externally and internally. The manufacturer’s automated SD commercial doors were also installed at the entrance to the building, creating a sleek, contemporary feel to welcome staff and visitors.

Senior’s systems replace existing, dated curtain walling systems which had come to the end of their design life. Parts of the older, original system remain at the force headquarters, on Carbrook Hall Road, and these were carefully integrated with Senior’s systems during the nine-month refurbishment process.

Architects specified Hybrid series 3 systems in order to create a natural, welcoming feel with timber internally while ensuring aluminium externally provides high weather performance and durability.

The sustainable properties of the Hybrid system complement the eco-friendly building, which has efficient heating, cooling and lighting systems and a full waste recycling system. The building is predominantly double glazed, while tinted windows reduce excessive solar glare.

Not only are Senior’s timber and aluminium Hybrid profiles responsibly sourced and fully recyclable, they also help to improve the thermal performance of a building and improve natural lighting once installed. This helps to conserve energy, cutting carbon and costs in the long-term and improving the health and wellbeing of end users – in turn, this can help architects to achieve impressive BREEAM ratings.

Meanwhile, Senior’s automated SD commercial door system, used at the entrance of the building, offers an anti-finger trap feature and its resilience ensures the system’s suitability for high traffic environments.

John Armitage, managing director of Alusec UK Ltd said: “We are proud to have been involved in such a high profile local project. The building had been empty for a number of years and due to the successful refurbishment of the site it has been a positive outcome for the client and local economy alike.”
