The sympathetic refurbishment of a Grade II Art Deco building in the heart of Newcastle to create a new Premier Inn hotel has benefitted from the specification of Senior Architectural System’s innovative PURe® aluminium windows.

The five-storey former Co-Op department store building, which dates back to the 1890s, has been redeveloped by main contractor Interserve and architects Archial NORR, with leading fabricators Essential Aluminium delivering the glazing package.

With the comfort of the hotel guests a key consideration, the exceptional acoustic and thermal properties of Senior’s patented PURe® aluminium casement windows were key to its specification. Offering some of the lowest U-values available to the UK market, the innovative construction of the PURe® window features an enhanced thermal barrier manufactured from expanded polyurethane foam (PUR). Helping to keep the heat in and the noise out, the PURe® frames were used alongside triple glazed glass.

The attractive slim sightlines offered by Senior’s PURe® windows also helped maximise the flow of light and perfectly complement the areas where some of the original window frames have been carefully restored.

Recently awarded a UK patent, Senor’s PURe® range of aluminium doors and windows has the potential to achieve U-values as low as 0.71W/m2K when calculated as a commercial CEN standard window and 0.93W/m2K when calculated as a CEN standard door.
