Hybrid Windows
HYBRID Windows Comprises, Casements, Tilt and Turns and Reversible Flush Casement Windows. It is also compatible with the HYBRID Entrance Doors.
The HYBRID system is a 83mm overall comprising timber on the inside for thermal insulation and aluminium on the outside for durability.
It is also compatible with all the HYBRID Curtain Wall System. The timber is available in lacquered or painted finish.
A full range of window hardware is available, including cockspur handles, friction stays, tilt and turn, overswing and espagnolette locking for added security.
Glazing
28mm double glazed can be used in the HYBRID system as standard, but other unit sizes up to 32mm are possible depending on weight.
Each pane of glass is individually inserted into a fully rebated and prepared opening. Glazing beads with an internal option standard on inward opening and an option on outward opening windows. Gasket seals to the inside create a bond between the glass and the main framing members.
Site Installation
Site fixing of finished frames should take into account all applicable standards with regard to both the method employed and safe working practices.
Frame fixings should be suitable for the purpose given site conditions and materials into which the installation is to be made. If in doubt, please check with your fixings supplier regarding type and method to be used.
Testing
HYBRID Windows Series has been independently tested to BS6375 and has achieved the following results:-
| Air Permeability | 600Pa |
| Water Tightness | 600Pa |
| Wind Resistance | 2400Pa |
The HYBRID Windows series has also been tested to BS7950 for security.
Test reports for individual window configurations are available on request.
Separate figures are available for Thermal U-values depending on type of window configuration, frame and glazing material.
Thermal Performance
Thermal performance of our systems depend on too many variables to determine a simple statement. Varying standards of insulated glazing units, profile selection, product size and mullion spacing combine to provide a unique 'U' value per window, door of curtain wall facade. At Senior Architectural Systems we use the most up to date designs and materials in order to offer the highest performance systems and products on offer in the UK. To determine the thermal performance of a specific proposed installation please consult your chosen supplier or Senior Architectural Systems who would be pleased to undertake a specific calculation. By varying glazing specifications and system/profile selection, high insulation, specific overall 'U' values required can be achieved.
Separate figures are available for Thermal U-values depending on type of frame and glazing material.
Size limitations for each type of window vary. The following schedule is an indication of the HYBRID system capabilities:
Open Out:
Top Hung - O/Out 1200 W x 1200 H
Side Hung - O/Out 600 W x 1200 H
Open in:
Maximum Size - 1200 W x 1200 H
Minimum Size - 390 W x 667 H
Multi-lights: all mullions and transoms over 1200mm high or wide should be checked for Ixx value stability to loadings provided by the specifier, or to BS6399 part 2:1997 The above schedule is based on nominal test results and assumes that adequate care regarding the location and exposure of the window is taken by the fabricator.
Materials
Extruded aluminium is Aluminium Alloy 6063.T6 to BS EN 755 part9: 2001
Anodizing: i) Natural (Silver) anodised to BS3897, 1991. and ii) Anolok Bronze Colour 547 anodised to BS3897, 1991. Anodising is to a minimum of 25 microns (AA25).
Powder Coating is to BS6496, 1984.
Gasketry is manufactured in accordance with BS3734 and BS7412, cat A.
Timber is certified by MPA Stuttgart with quality class BS 11, laminated according to DIN 1052 melamine glue, weather-proof and heat proof, humidity 12% +/- 2%, only lamellaes in principle free of knots are laminated.
Finishes
Aluminium profiles are normally supplied coated using the powder coat method. Powder coat is available in a wide range of standard colours and surface finishes. Bespoke colours can be provided but may be subject to extended delivery times. Aluminium can also be clear anodised in either satin or polished finish and a limited range of colours, which includes bronze and black, is also available.
Timber profiles are pre-finished with a clear or coloured coat of microporous water based lacquer to meet customers requirements.
Construction
HYBRID Windows are constructed using mitred and mechanical corners, with support chevrons and cleats. Integral transoms and mullions are installed by scribing the ends then fixing into the outer frames.
A proprietary sealant to protect against water entry should be used on all metal-to-metal joints and cleat insertion points at assembly. Timber mainframe sections are mitre jointed using a unique closed joint system.
Transoms and mullions are installed by scribing the end then fixing to outer frame. Opening Window Frames are designed to be inserted directly into the outer frames using friction stays or proprietary multipoint locking operating system for open in.
Glazing is double glazing 28mm standard.
At all times good working practices should be employed.
Fabrication
HYBRID Windows can be fabricated alongside aluminium systems with the minimum of additional equipment. Contact SAS for details of the cutting and jointing machinery required to fabricate HYBRID systems.
