Ground Floor Treatment: SFG
SFG is a commercial flush glazed system for ground floor treatment. Its mullions and transoms are a channel and plate construction allowing it to be fabricated into ladders for quicker assembly on site.
The mullions are designed to run through for optimum strength and the transoms are connected to the channel or the plate to form the ladders.
It is compatible with the SD Commercial Doors.
The SFG system is capable of carrying single and double glazing up to 24mm.
A range of reinforcing sections are available to allow for greater spans as required.
The system will meet the thermal requirements of the Approved Document L and Section 6 in Scotland as display windows are currently exempt.
Glazing
Glazing from 6mm single glazing to 24mm double glazed can be used in the SFG system.
Each pane of glass is individually inserted into a pocket rebate horizontal beads. Gasket seals to the inside and outside create a bond between the glass and the main structure.
Site Installation
Site fixing of finished frames should take into account all applicable standards with regard to both the method employed and safe working practices.
Frame fixings should be suitable for the purpose given site conditions and materials into which the installation is to be made. If in doubt, please check with your fixings supplier regarding type and method to be used.
Testing
Figures are available for Thermal U-values depending on type of frame and glazing material.
Thermal Performance
Thermal performance of our systems depend on too many variables to determine a simple statement. Varying standards of insulated glazing units, profile selection, product size and mullion spacing combine to provide a unique ‘U’ value per window, door of curtain wall facade. At Senior Architectural Systems we use the most up to date designs and materials in order to offer the highest performance systems and products on offer in the UK. To determine the thermal performance of a specific proposed installation please consult your chosen supplier or Senior Architectural Systems who would be pleased to undertake a specific calculation. By varying glazing specifications and system/profile selection, high insulation, specific overall ‘U’ values required can be achieved.
Materials
Extruded aluminium is Aluminium Alloy 6063.T6 to BS EN 755 part9: 2001
Anodising: i) Natural (Silver) anodised to BS3987, 1991. and ii) Anolok Bronze Colour 547 anodised to BS3987, 1991. Anodising is to a minimum of 25 microns (AA25).
Powder coating is to BS EN 12206: 2004 Part 1.
Gasketry is manufactured in accordance with BS3734 and BS7412, cat A.
Finishes
Aluminium profiles are normally supplied coated using the powder coat method. Powder coat is available in a wide range of standard colours and surface finishes. Bespoke colours can be provided but may be subject to extended delivery times. Aluminium can also be clear anodised in either satin or polished finish and a limited range of colours, which includes bronze and black, is also available.
Construction
Entrance framing, whether single or double glazed, is constructed using mechanical methods at butt joints. Assemblies use stainless steel or plated self tapping screws into integral screw ports extruded into the body of the sections, directly through square cut adjoining component parts. A proprietary sealant to protect against water entry should always be used on all metal-to-metal joints during assembly.
Vertical sections are designed to run through which enables individual panels to be made separately and eases the problems associated with handling or transporting large, or multi panel, frames when fully assembled.
Doors are fabricated from square cut components, mechanically jointed, using self tapping screws into special corner brackets and (or) torsion bars for compressive strength, or welded.
Glazing options include single glazing to 12mm, double glazing to 24mm, and ‘offset’ single glazing towards one side of the door. Security is achieved either by securing special outer beads to the main door structure or using our Fixed Rebate Door Rail Sections. At all times good working practices should be employed.
Fabrication
Senior Architectural Systems’ Entrance and Door Systems are designed to facilitate assembly with the minimum of equipment. It is however advisable that a reasonable approach be made to available machinery and it’s use to ensure a good quality of finished work with any aluminium product. A range of door punch tooling may be purchased from Senior Architectural Systems.
