Sutcliffe Park

The new Sutcliffe Park Sports Centre is situated within the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Sutcliffe Park Nature Reserve which is rich in wildlife. An important consideration for designers HTP Architecture working alongside ‘The Friends of Sutcliffe Park’ was to make sure the centre worked with its surroundings and actually enhanced the environment.

This was achieved with a low-profile building to reduce the visual impact of the scheme together with a living roof, landscaping, and planting of new shrubs and trees to add to the ecological biodiversity of the park.

A striking feature of the new sports centre is the sleek façade which is both stylish and sympathetic to its parkland location. Created using Senior’s slimline yet robust glazing systems, the centre benefits from Senior’s slim profile SF52 aluminium curtain wall, thermally-efficient SPW600e aluminium windows and SPW501 commercial aluminium doors, which together help to contribute to the centre’s light and modern interior.  The use of Senior’s Ali FOLD aluminium bi-folding doors to the rear of the building also provides a comfortable viewing area and easy access to the centre’s newly refurbished athletics track.

Partly funded by a grant of £150,000 from the London Marathon Charitable Trust, the aim of the new sports centre is to enable both residents and athletes to take part in a host of sporting activities in all types of weather all year round, to encourage an active healthy lifestyle.
