Case Studies: Orlitts Lake Centre
Orlitts Lake Visitor Centre is an educational facility and provides the opportunity for schools and other interested parties to observe the enormous variety of wildlife that inhabit the lake.
Construction of the centre was completed with a great deal of care for the surrounding environment. Standing on several concrete piles the lightweight structure was built primarily of aluminium to minimise weight and offer a long and low maintenance life. Access to the centre is over a drawbridge which effectively offers security to the centre when not in use.
Faceted curtain wall forms the main walls with glazed areas and insulating panels. Ventilation is provided by top hung casement windows which are fitted into the curtain wall system.
