Secondary Windows: SSG
The range of aluminum alloy Secondary Windows as detailed are designed for double glazing existing primary windows. They are easily fitted and operated, and allow for cleaning and maintaining both the existing primary and applied Secondary Window. When installed, they will give all the thermal and acoustic advantages of double glazing. The wide air space between the existing and Secondary Window can be more effective than the hermetically sealed double glazing unit. With the exception of the light duty fixed light, all units are set in identical designed outer frames suitable for installing adjacent to each other by using independently fixed corner or tee coupling mullions.
Hinged windows however, cannot be hung directly from these mullions.
Glazing
Note: All Glazing should be carried out to the recommendations of B.S.6262.
Single glazing 4mm to 6mm is standard using channel glazing gaskets
Site installation
Site fixing of finished frames should take into account all applicable standards with regard to both the method employed and safe working practices.
Frame fixings should be suitable for the purpose given site conditions and materials into which the installation is to be made. If in doubt, please check with your fixings supplier regarding type and method to be used.
Weather Performance
Thermal Performance
Thermal performance of our systems depend on too many variables to determine a simple statement. Varying standards of insulated glazing units, profile selection, product size and mullion spacing combine to provide a unique 'U' value per window, door of curtain wall facade. At Senior Architectural Systems we use the most up to date designs and materials in order to offer the highest performance systems and products on offer in the UK. To determine the thermal performance of a specific proposed installation please consult your chosen supplier or Senior Architectural Systems who would be pleased to undertake a specific calculation. By varying glazing specifications and system/profile selection, high insulation, specific overall 'U' values required can be achieved.
The Secondary Window range can be assembled in the following basic window types:-
1. Single Light Duty Fixed Light.
Up to a maximum overall area 1.8m2
2. Single Fixed Light
Up to maximum overall area 2.2m2
3. Hinged Lights.
(hinge weight limit 4kg)
| a. Side Hung - | maximum 'W' = 700mm |
| maximum 'H' = 1800mm | |
| b. Top Hung - | maximum 'W' = 1500mm |
| maximum 'H' = 600mm | |
| c. Double Side Hung | maximum 'W' = 1400mm |
| maximum 'H' = 1800mm |
4. Lift Out
Weight is the main factor for these units and a limit
of 15kg should not be exceeded.
Maximum area for 4mm glass = 1.5m2
Maximum area for 6mm glass = 1.03m2
5.Horizontal Sliding.
(maximum load for each roller 9kg)
| Using 76282 meeting stiles | maximum 'W' = 1200mm |
| maximum 'H' = 1300mm | |
| Using 76281 meeting stiles | maximum 'H' = 2000mm |
6. Vertical Sliding.
Weight is the main factor:
Spirex, 13.7mm dia., capacity per pair = 13kg
Maximum area for 4mm glass = 1.3m2
Maximum area for 6mm glass = 0.88m2
Glass Weight (for Reference)
4mm = 10kg/m2
6mm = 15kg/m2
The size and weight limits given for any of the Seceondary Window units must not be exceeded. Hinged units always to be fitted with alignment wedges.
For Vertical Sliding units, spiral balances and required balance brackets are obtained by direct order from the balance stockists only, giving information of window height, width, dimension to central meeting stile and glazing material.
Please refer to limitations data within the manual supplementary documents.
Materials
Extruded aluminium is Aluminium Alloy 6063.T6 to BS 1474, 1987
Anodising: i) Natural (Silver) anodised to BS3987, 1991. and ii) Anolok Bronze Colour 547 anodised to BS3987, 1991. Anodising is to a minimum of 25 microns (AA25).
Powder Coating is to BS6496, 1984.
Gasketry is manufactured in accordance with BS3734 and BS7412, cat A.
Finishes
Aluminium profiles are normally supplied coated using the powder coat method. Powder coat is available in a wide range of standard colours and surface finishes. Bespoke colours can be provided but may be subject to extended delivery times. Aluminium can also be clear anodised in either satin or polished finish and a limited range of colours, which includes bronze and black, is also available.
Construction
Fabrication
Senior Architectural Systems SSG Secondary Glazing systems are designed to facilitate assembly with a minimum of equipment. It is however advisable that a positive approach be made to available machinery, and it's use, to ensure good quality of finished work with any aluminium product.
