Curtain Walling: SCW+
SCW+ Curtain Wall is a low rise curtain wall system. It is similar to the SCW but has been designed to achieve even greater weather and thermal performance, through larger thermal barriers and high performance gaskets.
Its mullions and transoms are a channel and plate construction allowing it to be fabricated into ladders for quicker assembly on site.
It is compatible with the SD Commercial Doors and SFG Ground floor treatment making it an economical alternative to stick system curtain walls.
The SCW+ Curtain Wall system is capable of carrying glazing up to 36mm and can also accept window and door inserts from the SPW300 and SPW600 range. For aesthetics, the SMRF Frameless top hung vents can also be used as a top hung window insert.
A range of mullion sizes and reinforcing sections are available to allow for greater spans as required.
The system is compartmentally drained and has been fully weather tested to the requirements of CWCT and will meet the thermal requirements of the Approved Document L and Section 6 in Scotland.
Glazing
Glazing from 10mm single glazing to 36mm double glazed can be used in the SCW+ system. Single glazing adaptor sections are designed to take glass thickness of 6mm.
Each pane of glass is individually inserted into a fully rebated and prepared opening. Gasket seals to the inside create a bond between the glass and the main structure.
Glass is retained in position by plastic pressure plates screwed into the face of the main sections. Cover caps conceal the fixings screws for an aesthetic exterior appearance.
Site Installation
Site fixing of finished frames should take into account all applicable standards with regard to both the method employed and safe working practices. Frame fixings should be suitable for the purpose given site conditions and materials into which the installation is to be made. If in doubt, please check with your fixings supplier regarding type and method to be used.
Testing
SCW+ Series curtain walling has been independently tested to CWCT specification sequence B and has achieved the following results:-
| Air Permeability | 600Pa (class C) |
| Water Tightness | 600Pa |
| Wind Resistance | 2400Pa |
When tested in accordance with EN 13830: 2003 the following results were achieved:-
| Air Permeability | 600Pa (class C) |
| Water Tightness | 600Pa |
| Wind Resistance | 2400Pa |
Separate figures are available for Thermal U-values depending on type of frame and glazing material.
Thermal Performance
Thermal performance of our systems depend on too many variables to determine a simple statement. Varying standards of insulated glazing units, profile selection, product size and mullion spacing combine to provide a unique 'U' value per window, door of curtain wall facade. At Senior Architectural Systems we use the most up to date designs and materials in order to offer the highest performance systems and products on offer in the UK. To determine the thermal performance of a specific proposed installation please consult your chosen supplier or Senior Architectural Systems who would be pleased to undertake a specific calculation. By varying glazing specifications and system/profile selection, high insulation, specific overall 'U' values required can be achieved.
The SCW+ system is based on a sightline width of 50 mm for the exterior capping and main mullion profiles. A range of varying depth mullion and transom profiles are available to ensure that the system meets wind loading requirements. Face widths of profiles at corners may vary depending on the method of construction adopted.
Materials
Extruded aluminium is Aluminium Alloy 6063.T6 to BS EN 755 part9: 2001
Anodizing: i) Natural (Silver) anodised to BS3897, 1991. and ii) Anolok Bronze Colour 547 anodised to BS3897, 1991. Anodising is to a minimum of 25 microns (AA25).
Powder Coating is to BS6496, 1984. Gasketry is manufactured in accordance with BS3734 and BS7412, cat A.
Timber is certified by MPA Stuttgart with quality class BS 11, laminated according to DIN 1052 melamine glue, weather-proof and heat proof, humidity 12% +/- 2%, only lamellaes in principle free of knots are laminated.
Finishes
Aluminium profiles are normally supplied coated using the powder coat method. Powder coat is available in a wide range of standard colours and surface finishes. Bespoke colours can be provided but may be subject to extended delivery times. Aluminium can also be clear anodised in either satin or polished finish and a limited range of colours, which includes bronze and black, is also available.
Construction
HYBRID Curtain Wall framing is a traditional stick system and is constructed using mechanical methods at butt joints.
A proprietary sealant to protect against water entry should always be used on all metal-to-metal and gasket to gasket joints during assembly.
Vertical sections are designed to run through which enables individual panels to be made separately and ease the problems associated with handling or transporting large, or multi panel, frames when fully assembled.
The HYBRID system is compartmental drained.
Fabrication
Senior Architectural Systems HYBRID Curtain Wall systems are designed to facilitate assembly with a minimum of equipment. It is however advisable that a positive approach be made to available machinery, and it's use, to ensure good quality of finished work with any aluminium and timber product..
